How did turtles get their shells?



Click here to find out about an exciting fossil discovery that reveals a turtle that is so old that it only had the bottom half of a shell. Scientists believe that this aquatic turtle needed the protection there as that is often how aquatic creatures are attacked, from below.

Thats awsome but i can't get the thought that turtles used to have half of their shells since im used to seeing a turtle with both of its shell on.

I dont even believe that a turtle could have only the bottom half of the shell. But wouldn't the turtle need protection on the top also? This is a really interesting fossil discovery.

how did they know it didn't have a top shell. looking at the picture i honestly can't tell of it did or didn't have a top or a bottom.
