Here is a chance for you to do an interactive karyotype. You may recall that each of your Somatic (body) cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes. A karyotype is a photograph of the chromosomes from a single cell.
Let's see if you can pair up the chromosomes from a single cell properly in this activity!

Once you are done post a message to let me know how you did!

New Orleans Trip
Hi All,
I am doing this entry from my blackberry. All is well but it is tough to see how much there is to do here. I'll provide updates as the week goes on!

Gov. Rell and DNA!
HI All!
We discussed this in class. Read the following article and tell me how you feel about the role of DNA in crime fighting!
What are the pluses? Are there any possible minuses?

Candy DNA Molecules!
Hi All!
I challenged my students to create DNA from Twizzlers, gum drops, and toothpicks! There were many cool creations but this one was the only one I snapped a picture of. Good Job Steven, Steven and Cameron!
This project illustrated the nitrogenous base pairings of Adenine (A) with Thymine (T) and Guanine (G) with Cytosine (C). I was thrilled that some students tried to simulate the twisted ladder (Double Helix) shape of DNA also!
I hope you enjoyed creating and then eating DNA!

Genetic Smile Monsters!
Hi All!
Click Here to see ALL of the black team genetic monsters!
These were created by our students by coin flipping to determine the genetic traits of each monster.
For example, if they flipped Heads/Heads for face shape they would have gotten "C" "C". This is HOMOZYGOUS DOMINANT. (Ask your local black team student to explain this.) These two dominant alleles result in a round faced monster.
If they flipped Tails/Tails they would have gotten "c" "c", or HOMOZYGOUS RECESSIVE. These two recessive alleles would result in a oval faced monster.
What would happen if you flipped heads and then tails? What shape would the monster face be?
