Finished Eco-Jars!

The planning is over and the eco-jars were completed! They were soaking up the afternoon sun (the source of energy for most ecosyetems) and were all looking good! We will journal about their status over the next few weeks and discuss changes that occur and try and figure out whether the producer, consumers, decomposers and abiotic factors (the four main components of an ecosystem) are in balance. We will discover if our in puts lead to the right processes which lead to the appropriate outputs! :-)

I had fun creating these but I will admit it was a tad chaotic at times and a bit dirtier at the end of the day than usual! The classes did a great job!! :-)

What did you think about the activity? Share your story of the creation! :-)

  3. Hey Ozzie!

I think your eco jar is really interesting. How did you guys deal with the extra water issue? Dd we soak it up with soil?

I am sorry that we didn't do the aquatic one you wanted to try. That is still a cool idea, but hard to do with al kids.

  4. speaking of aquatic, there are fish that live in a sealed glass globe with only water a couple small plants+rocks+shrimp...They are called ecosphere and they are REALLY cool.it's completely enclosed and only needs sunlight :)
