Data Toss Lab Report!
Click Here for the lab report guidelines. Or see them below!
You did most if the work on the lab sheet in class. You collected your data on Friday.
Now you must create a bar graph of your data and and write a conclusion as per the description on the sheet above.
Best of luck and let me know how I can help.
Mr. F :-)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What does Mr. Forde want to see in the data toss experiment lab report?
1) Cover Page- Title of the Experiment should be centered and name, group should be in the lower right side of the paper. (5 pts.)
2) The Question: What were we trying to find out? Write your testable
question. (5 pts.)
3) The Hypothesis: What did you think was going to happen
and why? (5 pts.)
3) The Materials: What did we use during the experiment. (5 pts.)
4) The Variables: What were the Dependent and Independent
Variables? (10 pts.)
5) The Procedure: List the steps that we took to set-up and continue the experiment. (10 pts.)
6) The Data: Include the data table from your lab experiment. This will need to be re-written or typed. (20 pts.)
7) Data Analysis: Create a bar graph of the data collected daily. Must be done on graph paper or EXCEL. (20 pts.)
8) Conclusions: What did you learn by doing the experiment?
Did the results support your hypothesis? What were the possible sources of error? This should be 8 to 10 sentences! (20 pts.)

Review of the Week of 9/13
Hi all,
This was a great week full of hard work and fun experiences!
Kids were working very hard as evidenced by the following images. They were not staged! :-)
We learned about the work of Dr. Goldberber towards finding a cure for a terrible disease called Pellagra. (Ask your child for details.) This highlighted how he studied people scientifically.
We then all received virtual headaches (by drinking different mixes of lemonade) and then some of us were cured while others received a placebo! Here is a VERY sloppy graph of the class data which clearly shows that the medicine worked while the placebo had an odd "placebo effect" on the some of the students!
Next we did our touch sensor experiment. See the movie above to see some of the students on action. This tested the sensitivity of our sensory neurons! The data clearly showed that when the toothpick were .7 cm apart they were hard to detect as two and often felt like one toothpick! We learned that the one toothpick trials were a control to help us compare our data.
Beaker was very proud of you all this week!

Sorry about the headache!
Hi Guys!
I am sorry you had to have a headache yesterday. (lightly sweetened lemonade) I think it was a great SIMULATION of a CLINICAL TRIAL. It also allowed us to learn more about the effects of a PLACEBO. Now, remember, a placebo is used to ensure that the cure is coming from the medicine and not some other source. That's why they use them in these kinds of studies. I am also sorry that so many of you suffered side effects! :-)
Today we will be poking each other with toothpicks in another human experiment...fun fun fun! :-)

Text book issues....
HI Guys!
Thanks so much for all of the GREAT postings over the looong weekend. I know that several of you are hving textbook problems.. Maybe this post will help. If not...lets talk at school.
The address for the text book is http://www.sepuplhs.org It should look like this when you get there.
Then you click on the blue/green button that says "online textbook" on the right.
Now you enter the id and password in the spaces (see below).
The next screen you should see is below. There are obviously two text books available. We are using the life science one. The unit we are in is "Studying People Scientifically" so click on that heading.
Once you click on the right topic you will see our lesson titles, "Saving Fred" etc. Click on the Saving Fred title and it will download a PDF file directly to you computer called ebook.pdf.
File management on your computer can become an issue. I would start a folder on your computer called "7th grade science" and save the pdfs into that folder. You should 'save as" and rename them something better, live "savingfred.pdf" so they are easier to access later.
I hope this helps! :-) Let's talk in class tomorrow.
